The actress was found dead at her on Sunday home in Seoul by a friend, who then called the police, according to the Yonhap News Agency. Police reportedly found no foul play and are investigating the cause of death. Brave New World is a semi-hit for Marvel, but will fall short of the numbers the MCU posted in their heyday. It looks like Captain America: Brave New World is posting our first $100 million opener of the year, even if it comes with a bit of an asterisk next to it. While, yes, Disney can boast that Brave New World has opened to $100 million, the caveat is that the opening is based on the box office results for the entire holiday weekend (tomorrow is President’s Day), and that the three-day opening is a comparatively modest $88.5 million (according…
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts has rolled out the red carpet for its annual BAFTA Film Awards at London’s Royal Festival Hall. The ceremony is about to kick off on what is a typically cold and grey evening in the capital. Heading into the event, Papal thriller Conclave leads all nominations with 12, including Best Film, Director, Adapted Screenplay, Actor, and Casting. With the second-largest haul of nominations, Jacques Audiard’s Emilia Perez is vying for a total of 11, including Best Film, Director, Film Not In The English Language, and Support Actress. The film is also nominated…
Starry sessions with Robert Pattinson and Jacob Elordi enlivened the Berlin Film Festival Saturday as the actors made waves with high-profile new titles “Mickey 17” and “The Narrow Road to the Deep North.” Saturday’s premiere of sci-fi adventure film “Mickey 17” was one of the biggest events of the Berlinale so far, as all eyes in the film biz have been on director Bong Joon Ho and his followup to the Oscar-winning 2019 drama “Parasite.” Variety‘s Ramin Setoodeh and Elsa Keslassy captured the buzz in the room as Berlin fest director Tricia Tuttle had to cut the standing ovation short…

EXCLUSIVE: BAFTA nominees Clarence Maclin and John ‘Divine G’ Whitfield will not be attending Sunday’s film awards ceremony after their applications for entry visas to the UK were denied. Deadline has learned that the pair, who are both nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay for Sing Sing, while Maclin is up for Supporting Actor as well, made multiple appeals to the UK Home Office but were unsuccessful in having the decisions reversed. The visa refusals, we are told, were based on Maclin and Whitfiel’s criminal records in the U.S. Maclin, who plays himself in Sing Sing, served more than 17 years…
“Captain America: Brave New World” delivered a heroic $88.5 million in its box office debut, with domestic ticket sales projected to climb to $100 million through the Presidents Day holiday on Monday. Despite unfavorable reviews and terrible audience scores, the 35th entry in Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe arrived in line with projections and ranks as the biggest opening weekend of the year. Overseas, “Captain America: Brave New World” collected an additional $92.4 million for a global start of $192.4 million through Monday. In the $180-million tentpole, Anthony Mackie takes up the mantle as Cap from Chris Evans, who played the…
SPOILERS: This post contains details about episodes 1 & 2 of Yellowjackets, Season 3. In her third season on the team, Alexa Barajas is officially off the bench and ready to score on Yellowjackets. At Thursday’s Season 3 premiere of the hit Showtime series, the actress who plays Mari told Deadline about getting the chance to further develop the character this season and what comes back to “bite her in the ass” in coming episodes. “It was so much fun,” said Barajas. “I think Mari has so much in her, that even she isn’t sure. And I think she was…
In December 2024, as a film-TV force, Uruguay came of age, co-hosting with Cannes Film Market, Ventana Sur, Latin America’s biggest film-TV market, held since 2009 in Buenos Aires. Easy-to-work and welcoming, Ventana Sur also showcased what Uruguay can bring to the table. That, as of 2024, is rather a lot and cuts two ways: “Both production services on foreign shoots and international co-productions,” says Marcio Migliorisi, head of international affairs at Uruguay’s film-audiovisual agency ACAU. Put together, they make Uruguay an ever-stronger film-TV hub and port-in-the-storm on a now highly volatile Latin American film-TV scene. One game changer has…
Here’s a great piece of poster art for 1988 classic Robert Zemeckis-diorected film Who Framed Roger Rabbit. The art was created by artist Thomas Hodge, who did a great job capturing the spirit of the film in poster form. This was a private commision created for Cult Classic Prints, and it’s a poster that I’d love to own if it was actually avilable to buy. Who Framed Roger Rabbit is a groundbreaking blend of live-action and animation set in 1947 Hollywood, where cartoons (Toons) coexist with humans. The story follows Private detective Eddie Valiant (Bob Hoskins), a bitter alcoholic with a…
